PC Restarts twice on a restart? (Help Please)

Hey Guys,

I seem to be having a strange issue, over the last couple of days when ever i restart my PC it reboots twice and prompts me to do a Windows Repair.

I have tried the repair but no issues have been found, if i just select Start Windows normally then it boots up fine. Not had this issue on a normal power on just on a restart. This is annoying to say the least, can anyone offer advice on what this issue could be?

When i hit restart windows closes normally, i then get a black screen and hear the sounds pips from the motherboard then Motherboard manufacturer logo all normal at this point.... it's when the "Loading Windows Logo" appears that the whole process starts again.

I have run the start repair as said no issues found, i have run the windows memory Diagnostic tool no issues found, i have also run SFC/scannow in CMD and again no issues found.

This will only happen on a restart as i said the PC boots fine from the power on button.

Could this be a software issue?, the reason i ask is because i have a back up image of about a week ago that i could restore or do you think it is more Hardware related?

Any advice is welcomed

Specs below.... PC was built in 2011 i have replaced my GPU and added a SSD about a month ago but have had no issues with them and the PC is used daily.

Thanks guys

Just do a system restore and use the "scan for affected programs". Make a list of programs, updates etc. Click the last known restore point prior to the restart issue and restore.
When it has finished, try a restart. If all ok, then add affected programs, etc, one at a time and see if one of them is the cause.

Hi Idleman,

Thanks for the reply unfortunately my system restore points only go back to 9pm last night (That's with the "Show More Restore points" button clicked)
I would need to go back another 24 hours to be sure....

Is there any way to go further back in system restore?

Thanks for your help

Not that I am aware of.
Have you added any software or any updates prior to the issue?

i have a back up image of about a week ago that i could restore

Do this. Then if you have to re-install any software or updates, check to see if the restart works ok after each one.

Hi Idleman,

I have added a few things but i can always re download these.
I have Back up Image (Maccrum Reflect) that i will restore and report back.

thanks again

Just a quick update, i restored the Maccrum Image/Backup and the the restart issue seems to have gone away however i did run into another issue during the restore process and im just looking for advice please.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Maccrum Reflect (Free version) but here is what happened.

First thing i did before the the restore was verify the image and it said it was fine, i then had to boot from the USB rescue stick i made i then started the restore process......

The restore process finished got to 100% and said it was successful, i then got a message that my PC was going to restart just before the restart i got a message on the screen saying something like....

"Maccrum has encountered a serious error failed to create dump file ...."

My system the rebooted and at this point i did not know what would happen
but...... Windows loaded fine (To My backup image of last week)
and seems to be working fine.

Thing is guys should i be worried about the maccrum error?, i cant post on their forum because i have the free version :(

Things i have done, not sure if they would find any issues but...

I have ran SFC /scannow in cmd and no issues were found.
I then ran chkdsk and from what i can tell no issues found.

I don't really know what i am looking for in the chkdsk results in Event viewer but i can post them if you like?.

Is there anything else i could do to check this backup is ok?

Thanks guys

I have the same ssd, but think it is a bit early to be installing performance restoration updates. Mine is also only a few months old.
Just see how things go when you start installing your software and updates.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to give a little update on whats happening here and again look for some advice.

Since i last posted here i did the Maccrum back up re-install and all seemed ok for a week or so, then i was playing Titanfall and i had a BSOD that said something like "BAD POOL HEADER" so at this point i thought the best thing to do was a complete fresh new windows install. i had a few issues during the install of windows where during the updates i would get the "Double Boot" issue during the restart and the prompt to do windows repair however i would just start windows normally and it was ok.

Things have been ok for a week or so had the occasional crash in a game but nothing bad.
Today i started my PC and i got the same thing again my PC will boot twice and ask me to do a system repair, i select start windows normally and its ok.

Just would like some more advice please guys i built this PC back in 2011 and never had any issues at all untill my GPU failed and upon replacing that i also added a ssd and a sound card since then i have had nothing but issues :(

Things i would like to point out is i have a P67 Motherboard (Non B3 Revision)
the reason i did not send it back is because i have never used the Sata 3 ports. When i bought my new GPU the 970 i was told i would have to Flash my Bios to the latest version for this to work, for some reason no mater how i tried it would not update , i got advice on the MSI forum and they believed it would not update due to it being a Non B3 board.

I was told that the GPU would not work unlees i have the latest Bios but when i slotted in the Card it worked fine, can't help but think is this the reason that is now causing my issues?

Thanks to anyone who reads this acoring to the research i have done online it could be a number of things from PSU to Motherboard or could it be the SSD?

At this point i just don't know what to do

Any help guys??
