PC restarts when I shutdown...

Hi folks,

After getting advice on here I finally built my computer this weekend. It's going great, but I'm having problems turning it off (not just because I can't stop playing with it). When I hit shut down on the start menu it shuts down, only for it to restart a few seconds later. If I hold the power button when it starts restarting then it turns off. Not a huge problem but kind of niggling.

I wondered if anyone could help? I know I could flash the BIOS but I'd like to leave that as a last option ideally...

Here's my build:

Mobo: GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu 8gb
HDD: Samsung Spintpoint F3 1tb
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Thanks!

James

Just tested that, and no, it's still the same. I wondered if it's the million updates it's been doing recently but they seem to have stopped now and it's still just restarting.

Click on Start and then Control Panel.
Type power option in the search box .

Then click on change what the power buttons do
then set it to shutdown
and then save
try it and let me no

options to try
make sure all programs are closed before shuting down
dissconect your internet before shuting down
Update your bios
do you have any network etc try taking them out

Well, I've tried everything. Updated BIOS, reset CMOS, did a clean boot, nothing works. I guess it must just be the motherboard then. Given that it's not THAT much of a pressing problem and I can't RMA it (bought it new but second hand) should I stick with it or just get a new one? Is it going to cause any problems, other than being a bit annoying?

Cheers for all your help mickyflinn, tried everything I could find off google.

Starting to think it's probably a PSU problem now. Going to try and source one to try it out. Or just deal with it :)

Good luck m8 theese type of problems are the worst to diagonise. A fresh install of win 7 is my last suggestion, please let me no how you get on.
