Hi guys my PC has been running slow for a few weeks now, and I can't figure out why or how. I haven't installed anything to cause this (as far as I know).

It seems that it takes ages Booting up. Once it's all booted up for example I click on the CSS icon in the Start Menu, CSS will load up but take a few minutes more than normal (but will play with no problems). Same with IE and Outlook Express and most other apps. But once they have loaded and closed a few times, they seem to get quicker ! ! ! !

I have ran the following :-

Avast! Home Edition
PC Tools Virus Scan
Lavasoft-AD-Aware
SpyBot Search and Destroy
Defragged my HDD
Have also used Memtest over night with no errors.
All have ran and found no problems/Viruses/Spyware that couldnt be solved.

Have you guys got any Ideas ? ? ? ? ? ? ? :( :(

Can any of you guys help ? ? ?

How many processes do you have running? do you know what they are all for?

Hijackthis is probably your first port of call copy and paste the log into here so we can pick it to bits :)

Check your primary/secondary channels in hardware manager to see if anything is in `pio` mode rather than dma.My dvdrw went to that mode and seriously slowed down pc.It happens usually after failed attempts at reading a disc mostly or hard disk errors.
All you have to do is `uninstall` both channels, reboot and dma is enabled again.

How long have you had that windows install running for. Usually when i get problmes like that reinstalling windows solves the problem. I usually reinstall windows after every 8 months (depends on how many prog i install and uninstall within this period).

If you`d like to see how fast potentially windows could be try a clean boot with your broadband cable taken out of back.

You have a lot of processes running in the background.
I only use a firewall with firefox, use an online scanner once a week (nothing found yet).I don`t use anti virus as i find them a big resource hog, scanning everything as you go especially if you have system restore on as well.
If you download from trusted sources you shouldn`t have any need for an antivirus or those spyware apps.
If you haven`t already disable system restore/set visuals to `performance`,set `no sounds` in control panel/sounds.
Resetting your page file is a good idea too.
See if you notice a difference before you go for a full install which is prob the best idea anyway.

Do you realy need 2 Anti virus programs running? also having steam and halflife2 running in the background will do you no good. You also have Nvidia and ATi stuff running do you realy need them?
