PC running very slow

Hi there, posting this for someone else, so it's slightly vague.

The problem is: the computer suddenly started running really slow, tried system restore but won't it work, get an error saying "E\ after this point cannot be recovered because the was either excluded from system restore, or was turned off, or removed"

Don't really know what to try, why won't system restore work? what could cause it to suddenly run slowly?

Pc running slow,have you opened task manager and checked what processes are eating away at your processer.

Could be Malware,spyware,virus have you done a full scan in safe mode.

Have you defragged recently.

How full is your hardrive?

How many proccesses do you have running,turn off any you dont need to be running all the time..

May well be worth just backing up what you need to save and do a full reinstall to give you a fresh start.

That's the strange thing, E is nothing, C is HDD with OS, D is DVD drive. Nothing else.

Need to do a virus / spyware scan.

Could try defrag too.

Harddrive has plenty of space.

Processes seem fine, 5% cpu usage.
 
i think me personally would do a complete new install format drive and start again,dont forget to save anything of value first and do it,that way you anit gonna go scratching your head all day wondering whats wrong.
 
Ran plenty of virus, spyware scans etc, they found nothing and defragged the drive. Still same problem, any other idea guys? Thanks for help so far :)

Malware Scan
Adaware Scan
Virus Scan


ASPNET Account Removed
Un-needed shortcuts / files / wallpapers e.t.c
delete prefetch / temp files / ..\SoftwareDistribution\Download e.t.c
Remove unwanted applications (if any)
Disk Cleanup
Disk Defrag
upgrade memory?
