I am going to a LAN event in a week or so and I have to take my PC this time so I am looking into PC security. Reason being, last time at the same venue, people had their components stolen from inside their PC and some Towers were stolen.

I have done a bit of googling, but I want somebody to respond with some experience of things I can do to protect my PC.

I was thinking of Key Lock Screws so the side panel could not be taken off and some sort of Chain so i can lock the tower to the table or something :D

Any help appreciated.

A tough one really.. tbh.. I wouldn't take mine .. If it was something I was doing on a regular basis then I'd build a lesser mini system built of second stuff.. Minimal cost.. minimal loss.

However, you could wrap a belt rond the case tightly and padlock it.

I know it isn't practical but the best thing to do is always have someone with the PC and unpack it and take it to your room (or where-ever) when you have a long break. Whatever form of security you use there is nothing that will stop anyone who is determined.

Best idea like said above would just to take the pc with you when you are away for long periods of time. An advantage would be to have a smaller case to do that easily.

The NZXT Rogue case comes with a backpack/thing to strap your case onto so you can carry it around. Not a bad idea :p

get the usb locks to lock your periperals to the desk/case, have a case that locks or use locking screws. Dont leave valuables on the desk, if you can easily take it with you, then take it with you. Kensigton style locks are good if you can use them for anything. You just need to make it so that your pc is an effort/takes time to steal anything from, that way the theif will look elsewhere, as if hes there arsing around with a PC and no-one recognises him then he will likely have people ask him to f off.

Get one of those really awful, old beige cases with a funky transparent green or blue section on the front, people will think you have a crap PC and wont bother to open it ;)

Most thieves will just take what they can get their hands on though. :(

Plus they know your not going to go to a lanparty with a really bad spec pc.
