My fiance has just upgraded her PC. Her current specs are:

- Gigabyte SKT775 Motherboard
- Intel Pentium Dual Core E6700 3.2GHz CPU
- 6GB Corsair DDR2 6400 Ram
- 64GB Crucial C300 SSD
- nVidia 8800GT 512MB Graphics Card
- Pioneer SATA DVDRW

We've installed a clean install of Windows 7 64bit on the SSD and it takes around 40 seconds to boot. We tried the SSD in a Dell PC with 2GB Ram and a Q6600 CPU a couple of weeks ago when we first got the SSD and it only took 27 seconds to boot on a clean install of Windows 7.

Could it just be the difference between a Dell Bios loading and the Gigabyte one or do you think it's more likely to be the Pentium Dual Core CPU compared to a Core 2 Quad?

A quad core will have little to no effect on your boot times... The 13 second difference could be easily consumed by the bios. i.e. memory tests, checking for additional drives etc..

If you want to speed up boot times go into the bios and turn off the additional tests and configure your drives instead of leaving it on autodetect.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Check Bios

I have had a Dual core and a Quad COre each running roughly at the same clock speed the quad is a little faster but with other components being upgraded as well and as your bus speeds or you hard drive data transfer speeds.

Boot times are not affected by CPU speeds. I believe you have to enable ACHI to get the best out of the SSD, but I'm not 100% sure as I don't own one.
