PC shut down no restart

Well that's good playing a game on PC it shut down and will not reboot its an i5 sand clocked to3.9 generic 750 power supply what could be the problem there
Are lights on from the USB powered items and the graphics card is it the power supply?

Has this just happened once or multiple times? Hold the power button for at least 5 seconds to do a hard shutdown.

From what you said I think you've overclocked your CPU? Try returning to stock and see if it happens?

Remove all bar one stick of ram from the computer,

ie totally remove the GPU and disconnect all drivers, then try and boot with just the CPU and a single stick of ram. (If no boot suspect PSU or MB)

If it boots, shut down and then attach your HDD/SSD and repeat. (If no boot suspect HDD)

If it boots, shut down and then refit GPU (If no boot suspect GPU)

Eventually have everything plugged back in. (If it boots now, then suspect it was a loose cable)

This should narrow down the fault.

With minimal connected the motherboard lights flash on when I pres the power button and nothing else happens is this a bad power supply

Quite likely to be this. Especially if with the bare minimum you're getting nothing bar LEDs lighting up. The LEDs could well be on a different voltage rail to the rest of the system.

When you say generic 750W PSU, what brand of generic 750W PSU.

It could well be a bad PSU, especially if you've had it for a while as they degrade over time. Generics can be either really good (Dell) or total utter junk.

Well it says pulse on the side its about 2 years old it seem I have been lucky from reading on the net with this power supply

Well make sure you have found the fault but a superflower gold 650 watt psu would be the best option.

I would get another PSU straight away. You need a working PSU to test the system and having googled "Pulse PSUs" the 750W unit sells for £20 :eek:

There was a 500W model for £15!

I would consider these very dubious PSUs if they're that cheap.

A good 550W unit is all you need. If you want a modular PSU, the EVGA G2 and GS series are excellent, along with the XFX XTR series and Superflower Leadex. Hardwired options are cheaper. Some of the best options are the Superflower HX Golden Green range and the Antec Truepower Classic range.
