Having a problem with my pc,,,,it will be on for around 7 hours then with out any warning it just switchs off. I think it maybe the PSU on the way out,,I've run Real Temp and the pc is not overheating and I have no warning from Windows. Could anyone tell me what psu would be best fro my sysytem and also,,,are they easy to fit ??!!! .
My system is - Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
- Asus P5Q Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- HIS ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI PCI-Express
- Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
- LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive
- OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 Power Supply
Antec 900 case
Windows XP Home Ed..
I know your all gonna say its a really old system but up till now I've had no problems with it and it still can run any games I play. Thanks in advance for any advice.
 
so it switches off as in powers down (not restarts)?

and a new psu is very easy to fit harder to get the wires tidey but not that hard.
 
A cheap test beforehand is trying a different kettle lead from PSU to mains socket.

Otherwise look at something like Stock Code: CA-181-AN

I will try using a different lead,,,if the problem continues I was looking at this,,,,OcUK Battle 550W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular '80 Plus' Power Supply [CA-036-OP].
Would this be ok for my system??,,please forgive these silly questions but apart from changing a graphic card and adding more ram I dont normally open my pc's apart from cleaning.
 
Run your spec through a PSU wattage calculator, for a standard rig 500w is usually plenty.

I always preferred Enermax or Antec, but its subjective, I'm sure numerous will back up every other PSU brand on the site. Just read some reviews.

I've run a PSU wattage calculator and it comes out at around 480w.
