Hi,

My mates pc shut itself down and now when he powers it up it does not display anything on the monitor.

The gfx card fans do not spin and the cpu fan does not spin, however the 3 other case fans do.

Once turned on via the case switch, the only way to turn it off is via the psu button. The case buttons do not function once it is turned on.

I'm not sure if the cpu aio pump is working, the vibrations i'm feeling are weak or possibly not the pump at all.

There are 4 cpu phase leds on this motherboard, only the first left blue led is lit.

Specs that i know;

MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard
some sort of next AIO cooler
hyper x ram
next case
msi 650ti boost
corsair gamer ~650watt psu
not sure what cpu it is (probably doesn't matter tbh)

By all accounts the pc has been working fine for just under a year, my first bit of googling suggested the bios needs updating but that only was a fix for new builds with a newer cpu the old bios didn't support and his pc has been working so i ruled that out.

I'm going to remove the gfx card and ssd/hdd and try using the onboard after a cmos reset, but i have a feeling the aio cooler pump failed and it's fried the cpu/board. The computer didn't bsod it shut itself down which suggests to me it might have reached the thermal limit and shut down to prevent damage.

Any thoughts on what else i could try? or anyone knnow what the led codes are for msi boards.

I think what you outlined there is pretty much what I would have suggested. Do you know if he has the OEM CPU cooler?

i'm not sure he's at work atm.

I have a spare antec khuler 620 and corsair h100 i can use to test it with. I probably have the hsf from my retail 3570k which should fit, he has the intel bracket fit on the back so i imagine it will anyway.

I might try plugging a fan in to the cpu header to simulate a normal hsf being used for a sec to see if it spins up. If it's only for a second or two it won't damage anything i guess.

I can't try the gfx card in my pc as it has a custom loop and i'm not messing about that much to try it :D

cmos reset didn't work.

Turns out he bought it from ocuk less than a year ago though so as much as i'd like to spend my free time sorting it out i'll get him to post it in to them as aything that needs replacing will be covered anyway :)

As soon as he told me he got it from here i breathed out a sigh of relief, knowing their customer service it will be sorted out promptly for him.
