I have just built a new pc and when gaming it will just switch off on me, so i have to turn it back on at power button again. Well it does this the power supply will stay on for a min or two before that shuts itself off aswell.

The specs are :-

1000 watt icute power supply
ASUS M4N98TD EVO motherboard
Phenom 1090t at 3700 mhz cool and stable, It was set at this was at 4100 mhz but did not like it for everyday use due to voltage and temp.
8gb Corsair Vegence ram 4x 2gb at rated speeds
and gtx 480 sli

The pc ran fine and till i added the second 480gtx (why not with overclockers prices on them lol) but since then it has developed these problems now i have tried running it with both graphics cards on there own and it run fine, with both in if sli is disabled it runs fine still, but asoon as i turn sli on it will run fine and till the moment the fans start to speed up on the graphics cards then it shut off instantly. I have checked the temps and they all are reportedly ok from what different software telling me.

I have tried running everything i can think of including running all none essential stuff hard drives, dvd drives and fans on another power supply and leaving main bits on 1000 watt one but still had problem, I am thinking it is the power supply not giving enough power to the system once the graphics cards start getting hot and fans kick in, is this the most likely cause of my problems, as i am at a lose to know whats wrong now.

Any help would be great as i am lost as what to try next.

The gpu were in the low to mid 70s when fans kicked in and it turned off processor was mid 40s and motherboard chips were in low 50s they all as they were before i added second card and never had problems before i added it.

Tried with case fans at full speed and temps as a whole dropped about 5c but that still made no difference other than it took longer for fans on graphics cards to spin up but when they eventually did it still switched off.

Everytime something like this has ever happened to me in the past (twice, two rigs) its been the psu.

yep thought so i got it a couple moth ago when it was only one i could get local after my other power supply went bang with a load of sparks and smoke lol oh well better get a new one then, i suppose when i can afford it will run just one card for now.

Thanks for help everyone.

Sorry to raise the thred again, But I would just like to know after the help I had before from the helpfull people on this forum, if the Coolermaster Silent Pro Modular 1000W PSU would be capable of running my system with both GFX card in it (first post for system specs).

I think from what I can work out it should be fine, from online sites that work out power requirement for your system, mine around 850 watt at 100% load, but they only deal in watts and not amp. Its is listed on nvidias site as certified for these cards, but I have no clue with power supply requirements, has it something I have never had a problem with before, so have limited knowledge on it. But from what I can see the amps can be more important than the watts available.

I may be wrong on all that so best to try get some help first, as I can just about afford to get that power supply now, but if not I will be waiting till next pay to get it sorted (a month away), but no point in getting it if it wont do the job.

Again thanks to any one who can help.

it should be able to run them ok, its much better than the icute psu at least

althou personally i would prefer corsair or antec

I'd have to agree and says it's the iCute PSU. I had one not so long ago that did do the same thing (500W iCute) - it also died after only 5 months. Bought myself a 550W XFX from here and my computer hasn't turned itself off once while gaming.

well i can pick up a Corsair TX950W locally for 130 would you say that is better than the Coolermaster Silent Pro Modular 1000W i was thinking about getting

agreed sounds like a psu joby to me, had a simmilar problem when buying one of the cheaper power supplies.. gota a better one runs like a dream :)

have found the 1200 watt Coolermaster Silent Pro gold Modular in my price range for this week so have ordered that should be ok for what i need dispite its faults hopefully wont give me any problems for what i need it to do

That icute PSU makes no sense.

Code:
(+3.3V)+(+5V) = 180W
(+12V1)+(+12V2)+(+12V3)+(+12V4) =750W
(+3.3V)+(+5V)+(+12V1)+(+12V2)+(+12V3)+(+12V4) =830W
TOTAL POWER: 1000W(peak) 850w rated

How can a 850W rated PSU suddenly be rated as 1000W when from it's own specs can't realistically achieve that sort of power.

I would call it a 750W PSU and would consider it borderline for use with 2 x gtx480 even if it were a quality brand.
