Had no Problems Pc wise for about 3months since i changed motherboard and power supply, and as of about 8pm tonight.. the pc has randomly shut off 3 times without warning.. just powered off.. then about 5 seconds later powered back on and booted up.

1st time was playing nba 2k11 mid game.. 2nd time whilst on fbook, and then 3rd time whilst just in standby.

Any idea's whats causing it?.. theres no blue screen or anything.

Psu is a xxx xfx 650w modular, and is only a few months old :confused:

Usually that kind of behaviour is a PSU problem, based on my experience. The fact that it appears to happen when idling also suggests that it's probably not heat-related, but it may be a good idea to check that out too.

Spec is, i5 2500k @ stock, A50 cooler, gtx460 768mb engtx, 9600gso for phsyx, 650w xxx xfx psu, 12gb xms3 ddr3 ram, 2x bitfenix red led fans 2 xigmatek red led fans, 3 non led fans, and 1 140mm fan blue led. Case is a cm690 ii advanced, temps on CPU are 35'c over the 4cores, 9600 is about 62.c, 460 idles at 38 and both get upto about 72 in game. Edit: also have a White cathode in the case too

Been fine for 4months, psu and motherboard bought in may from oc :-/

did it again about 20minutes ago.. gf was playing the sims 3 for the last 3 1/2 hours n it was fine.. then just shuts off :/ no bsod just off.. then on

Update :O .. plugged the pc in n turned the 0/1 switch off on the psu, then took the 9600gso out, then when i turned the 0/1 back to 1.. everything in the room went off. Speakers, tele, monitor, lamp.. turned plugs off at wall and plugged them into an extension from the kitchen. everythings powered up now from that fine.

turned off the auto restart so if it does it again then its the pc.. if it lasts all night im going to have to say theres an electrics fault with the plugs socket in my room. (part of an extension)

I had an XFX Black Edition 750W and was experiencing same problems. I also had a 512MB XFX XXX HD 4850. I returned both and both were confirmed as faulty by the manufacturer (I was surprised as I expected it to be one or the other!).

Is there an audible high pitched whine coming from the PSU when the system is shut down but not switch off at the wall socket? If so I would RMA the power supply asap.

theres no noise at all coming from the psu, its acting like it has done for the past 4months, it just kind of flickered.. then went off.. then came back on.. n then this time, when i turned pc on at the psu, everything just cut off. thinking the wall socket as when it turned on to draw power from the wall then it cut out.

Need a Sparky >.<

Try it in a known working socket and see what happens. It's not impossible for a faulty PSU to also cause the fuse to trip.

Did n it worked fine, been upstairs watching the tele and the tele keeps cutting out, so im fairly sure it's the electrics in the extension playing up:(
