Hi, I recently helped my friend upgrade his old PC but now the PC will suddenly shut down. It happens consistently during a cold boot, the PC will simply shut down, no BSOD. In the event viewer it simply shows that the PC lost power kernel error 41.

Here are the parts of his PC:

CPU: Phenom X6 1055T
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970a UD3P -> Replaced an MSI board that died during a bios update :(
RAM: 2x8GB -> upgraded from 2x4GB sticks.
Video Card: Radeon 6850 -> gave him my old card to replace his 5770.
PSU: Coolmaster 600W Lite

It's not a heat issue since the temps are fine even under load. I am suspicious of the power supply due to the nature of the PC symptoms but any ideas should be helpful. I have also reconnected the power connections, and checked the power supply using a PSU tester and it didn't find any problems.

I'd go for a PSU issue. How old is it?

The PSU is 3 years old or so but the problem persists even after l replaced the PSU with another 600W unit. I also tried a different GPU(5770) and still the same issue. I really hope it's not the motherboard or the CPU.

Error 41 is simply the computer telling you it shutdown unexpectedly, which you already know... One of many possible reasons is unstable overclocking.

set the overclock back to stock, if you have any and test.

Thanks for the input so far guys. The PC runs at stock clocks. This event happens always during a cold boot. It will be loading Windows and then suddenly it switches off. After l switch it on it will load windows normally with no issue. Cpu/mobo/ or the ssd drive might be problematic.

I would say PSU, even if the rails check out, it could still be bad

I doubt that both power supplies are problematic. I had the same idea as you but after trying the second PSU that used to power a more energy demanding system l ruled that out.

After some research l tried disabling fast startup in Windows 10 and the PC won't lose power on a cold boot now(so far).

I would still do a complete stress test. If it is still happening, try to unplug some HDD etc. If the shutdown happens later , must be the PSU.
My good old trusty CWT PSU gave up on me long time ago, but still in love. If i got some bull**** PSU , could end it up in much more worst scenario .

SU: Coolmaster 600W Lite whats the 12v rail rating ?

I take it this is a fresh windows install ? if not scan for viruses with microsoft security essentials and malware bytes.

You never know might be as simple as that or try resetting the cmos on the board and loading failsafe bios settings.

I recently had a problem with games minimizing to the desktop all the time turned out I had a virus, amazed it was even on there as I am careful.

Other option, use live Windows or Linux from CD or DVD. Maybe the easy one to try.

OFF topic , since i have SSD, takes like 10 times more to do the virus scan comper to HDD. :D

so it works properly once its warm up?

only reboot when its cold?

I had this problem before and it was the psu.

oh yea another tip, check the pci-e power connector are not worn and making good contact

It's a single 12V rail PSU with 45A on that rail. The PC was exhibiting the same issues with an another 600W PSU made by Allied Tech which had a dual 12V rail. The PC would pass stress testing and cheerfully render stuff in 3D Max with no issue.

It would lose power always during a cold boot(while it was loading Windows). After l disabled fast-startup in Windows 10, it boots with no issues now.
