PC Shutting Down

I just upgraded my PC with a new mobo and proc and now whever I turn it on it just closes itself and completely shuts down.
Is this a huge problem with hardware? I was of the opinion that if the computer turns on and can run for ~35- 120 mins without problems then it was just a small problem happening over and over.
Thanks

Sorry, I can't really understand your post.

Are you saying the PC doesn't work at all now. Or are you saying it powers down after 30 minutes?

Are you saying it used to power down after 30 minutes?

It could be any sort of issue. You'll want to narrow it down.

Grab memtest and run it from a CD and check your memory.

Grab Prime95 and run that within Windows.

Grab furmark and again run it within windows.

Run the tests for an hour. Generally though you'll find any problems fast.

Also monitor your temps during the last 2 tests - your motherboard manufacturer probably has a utility to do it. But also use coretemp.

Post back with results, and we'll help you work out what's what.

A wee bit of a disclaimer though... sometimes these things are impossible to diagnose down to one particular item.

By 'close down' you mean it just stops? Black screen, no lights, no fans, just like you pulled the plug? If true, might be the PSU getting hot and shutting down (was that uprated to account for any new hardware?). If the CPU or something else was getting too hot you normally get a warning beep or something. Try running with the case open for a while.

I've been running it and testing everything and it's all fine apart from, i think, there's a problem with one of the sticks of ram.
I'm not sure if that's it but when I take one out it seems to work better. It's a mobo with 2 slots for the ram sticks and there both got 512mb sticks in. Could it be a problem with using 2 sticks?
Thanks

Ok. Go back to running memtest from the CD (not inside Windows) and test each stick of RAM individually.

You now need to determine if it is a RAM problem.

And if it is a RAM problem if it's a problem with 1 of the sticks - a faulty stick. Or if it's a compatibility or configuration issue when you have both sticks in.

I've been talking to a friend with a mobo that is also made by Gigabyte and he said that a common problem with these mobo's is that they're sent out as stock w/o high enough power supply levels for the RAM sticks. And that because he didn't immediatly increase the voltage his PC did something similar to what I'm experiencing.

I'm too tired to run any tests at the moment but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem to this one, to try and gauge how likely it is.
Nonetheless I'll test both sticks tomorow :]
