Hi, not been on here for a while, anyway last few days my pc has been randomly shutting down so i decided to give it a good clean out and check for any loose connections, i came to the 24 pic connector and on inspection found one of the pins to look melted, now i do remember something similar a couple of years or so ago but forget what the cause was.
Here are some pics of the offending connector and the seemingly ok motherboard.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

yeah swap the psu,and rma it if still in warranty

what make/model psu was it?

id put it down to psu not board/cpu ect

Burnt wires there too. Is the the Antec 1200w in your siggy? The only time i have seen that before is when a mobo tries to pull too much power through the plug.

Yea the Antec 1200 in the sig, i do remember on some boards they added extra molex power connectors to stop the pcie slots pulling too much power through the 24 pin, i think the psu is in warranty so ill rma it but what about the board ? it will be way out of warranty but in theory is the cause ? should i just get a new mobo too ?

Thx for the fast responces

its probably the sli 580's they eat power

maybe a single less power hungry card? or two? otherwise I doubt another board would help other than board/cpu upgrade

Had it for a couple of years with no issues really, maybe ill just upgrade the mobo/cpu for something a bit newer.

I think its down to running two hungry gpu's,that and your oc plus other stuff are melting the 24pin plug over time

more power efficient gpu/gpu's would help till you upgraded to lower power board/cpu

In the end i bought a Corsair AX860 as a temporary replacement(which i was looking to put in another build later) and RMA'd the HCP 1200, also upgraded to an Asus Rampage IV BE and 4930K with some Corsair Vengeance ram, the RMA has just gone through and i now have a new HCP 1200 which i will be putting back in shortly and building another system with the old mobo/cpu/ram and the Corsair AX860.
