Bit of a strange one this so I thought I would throw it out to you guys, maybe someone has come across something similar.

Under full load, such as folding or Orthos the PC will just switch off, dead in the water.

You would think a PSU problem as it only does it under load but I know a 520W OCZ can run my kit, unless it is on it's last legs.

Spec is.
X2 4200 S939
8800 GTX
Asus A8N32-SLI
and 3 HD's
2x 1gig OCZ memory

The only thing I can see that might be slightly dodgy is the 12V rail, dipping as low as 11.5 sometimes but still well within the specifications.

Perhaps the PSU tripping it's self out? it switches straight back on and the fan is working.

Open to any suggestions, im just going to check there is'nt any option in the Bios to shutoff if any of the rails drop too low.

Little bit more info, it can do it within a few minutes or up to about an hour of folding/stressing.

Yeah at stock they hit about 48c and it's shutting off at stock or under OC.

Anyone know why if my FSB is on 240 and I have set the HTT multi to 4x my HTT is reading as 720? Should'nt it be 960?.

SB to NB frequency is the HTT link right?

Anyway going OT:p

running Orthos and the 3d window in ati tool now to try to help the PSU let go.
if it shuts down faster with GPU load as well, then it must be the PSU :(

Can't remember adsactly, certainly under 12 months and the ratings are 520W: +3.3V(28A), +5V(52A), +12V(28A) just the one 12V rail.

Very fluctuating 12V rail as well. While never dropping more than 10% it certainly bounces around a lot and dips (as you would expect) if you stress the GPU. Maybe just having the one 12V rail is problamatic with a GTX.

I'm pretty sure a GTX requires around 30A on the 12V rail, perhaps its not quite enough and is causing the shutdowns. Are they during games?

Nope, happily plays games for hours. Only happens when the cores are 100% loaded such as Folding or stress testing. Maybe an idle GTX and loaded cores uses more juice than stressed GTX and 1 core playing a game.

Bit of a mystery realy. Everything certainly points to the PSU, maybe as it is getting on in age it just can't hold a sustained drain like it used to, only started happening yesterday, have had months of faultless PC bliss.

Kinda hoping it just lets go so I can RMA it, certainly can't RMA yet as technicaly it's working.

EDIT
A little googling shows that a GTX is supposed to have it's PCI-E connectors coming from 2 seperate rails. I have just the one and it's powering 3 HD's as well. Guess im lucky it has lasted this long, and is shutting off for self preservation.
