PC Shutting Off

Hi, I have been problems with my pc over the past few days. It has been turning itself off as if the electric has gone off. It does it even if it is sitting idle on the Windows desktop.

I suspected graphics card first, so I put in my old 6870 but it is still turning itself off.

I am starting to suspect my power supply might be the problem. Its an OCZ ZX 1000W PSU, which is more than enough for what I'm running.

In the bios all voltages etc look fine.

Anyone have any idea of what tests I could perform on the PSU to rule it out? I'm going to remove it and take a look at it. The fan for the PSU is on the bottom of the PC so it might be worth cleaning that out.

i had a problem with my pc shutting down and the problem was one of the psu cables to the graphics card had a faulty connector, i replaced the cable and it has been ok since

Do you have a modular PSU? Did you switch the connector it was plugged into as well or just the cable? Will try replacing those.

There's no consistency to this. It might run fine for an hour and then just shut off. Other times it might run for a few mins and then shut off.

yes i have a modular psu and luckily it came with extra connecting cables, I had tried to make the cables neat and tidy, but in bending over the thick cable to my graphics card I obviously pulled a connection loose inside, when I replaced the cable I just let it have a more direct route.
my pc was erratic to, it took a while to work out what the problem was
