Hi all

I`ve a quick question or two. I hope I`ve posted this in the right place, if not please move and accept my apols. :)

Just had my mate on the phone saying he put his pc to sleep over night last night and now cannot wake it up... (it`s something I never do so not sure of an answer myself)

Nothing he does "wakes" it up... mouse movement... pressing buttons etc... nothing works.

He`s on a Vista machine... a Dell I think.

Also he says there doesn`t seem to be a reset button on the pc so would turning it off at the wall be an option? Would this hurt anything? I know it shouldn`t be done but thought I`d ask as nothing else seems to be working for him...

Any help as soon as poss would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

tj :)

As an occasional solution just hold in the on-switch for a few seconds which will power off the machine. Then press it once more to power up the machine. I wouldn't make a habit of it though.

Try updating Vista to service pack 1 if he hasn't already, and also into the routine of saving work before entering sleep mode to prevent data loss. Unfortunately there is no easy answer to why the computer won't wake. It happens to me sometimes.

Erm, usually you just hit the power button again to bring it out of sleep.... but he's tried that.... right?

Many thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

I`ll head off and tell him.

I`ve googled the prob on his behalf and it seems there`s loads of people out there that have come across this problem...

Will advise him to update SP etc and there`s also some kind of hotfix I think... I`ll mention it to him.

Thanks again. :)
