Trying to rule out that i need a format, pc has been acting sluggish recently.

Just checked 3mark06 and got a pitiful 9k which is odd considering I use to get 14k and that was before putting in a second 250 gts.

What should i realistically be expecting from an e8400 at 4.0 ghz, 4gig ram, w7, and 250 gts in SLI.

1. Uninstall software you don't use to free up drive space.
2. Clean out temp files and other internet junk (Google "CCleaner").
3. Defrag your HDD.

Stoner81.

Cleaning software (I prefer Advanced System Care as CCleaner does some things I do not feel comfortable with, and ASC seems to provide better results), and a good anti virus sweep (Microsoft Security Essentials is curiously effective) will get you most of the way there. Deleting old and unused files and software also helps immensely.

My oc had indeed gone, and for some reason everything was running at 2.4 ghz instead of 3.0 ghz as standard, now back up to 4.0 when i boot, however cpu z and coretemp both say its still running at 3.0 so im unsure, 3dmark is back up to 14k though

It may be a sign your OC is unstable, run stability tests again to find the best overclock and go from there. Sometimes over time overclocks have to be dialled back, it happens.

ok just a little outside the box this helped for a friend online last night..
hit cpu used to read 72C on idle now reads 19C

maybe try cleanging it out from dust...
