Hey everyone, was thinking of picking up a ps3 and connecting it to my monitor, now the only problem i have is getting a decent audio setup for it.

At the moment i'm using 7.1 surround sound speakers for my pc and it's great. I was wondering how exactly i could go about setting these speakers up with my ps3, i could use my monitor speakers with the ps3 but there not very good and it would be too much of a downgrade to be honest.

I'd also think about buying some decent headphones for it if i can get them at a good price, wouldn't want to spend too much though, so yer hopefully someone can help, much appreciated, thanks.

Dave.

Well unless the speakers you use have a digital connection (SPDIF), ie coaxial or optical, then you cant. To my knowledge, all 7.1 PC speakers are analogue, so I am afraid you will have no success connecting them to a PS3. Just thinking about it, I don't think 7.1 is possible with SPDIF, only 5.1. You would need an AV amp + speakers for 7.1, or some speakers that have an SPDIF connection, Logitech Z5500 for eg, which would be 5.1.

Ok damn, thanks for letting me know, you don't know of any decent headphones that i could use with a ps3 do ya? Don't really want two different sets of speakers in the same room to be honest.

You can do it the way described in the linked thread from Reality, but you will only get the front left and right speakers. You won't be able to get the full 7.1 as the PS3 does not support analogue surround sound.
