Hey folks,

Looking to get a new machine to replace my v old, dilapidated desktop.

Budget is £500, no need for monitor, OS, mouse or keyboard. Just the base unit.

Will be used for some work (web/software development), streaming video to my Chromecast and of course, gaming. Needs to be able to play BF3, BF4, GTA V, etc at a decent level of quality.

Thanks!

Thanks!

How well does the graphics card hold up? Is it capable of 1080p gaming?

If I dropped the HDD (I could use my current one) is there any room for improvement?

Alternatively, could more beef be gained from a £600 budget? (but again, keep out the normal HDD)

Thanks again!

PS does the bundle come with a CPU HSF?

I assume your current pc has a dvd/rw thats £13-£20 save there.
As you said reusing the HDD saves you £34.
As for the stock cooler you can ask OCUK to check.
OCUK do weekly discounts which usually is £10-20, so you could maybe get better spec ram with tweaking

That case only has 1x 92mm exit fan with restricted intake. Same but with bigger front grill..

could add a front fan to improve cooling, have positive pressure

Alternative stuff...
Case. (120mm quiet intake, not sure the eta on "out of stock" items)

Case Fan (92mm rear exhaust fan as non with case)

CPU heatsink (max height 148mm) *shrugs*
power supply (80 plus gold will save you something over the life of the unit)

GPU: Niv GTX 960/970
250GB SSD

*continues to ignore budget*

You would have to up Budget to £650 to level up your gpu ans ssd. The gtx 970 will handle everyting at 1080p with max settings but the 380 is great for the money and cope well at 1080p.

The bundle above is good value but the motherboard has more features and ram i specced are faster.

1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (ZT-90101-10P) £254.99

Wow thanks peeps. Spec is looking good!

I might be tempted to keep my old case, but if a new one is only £20 I dunno haha!

I do have a dvd drive, but it's IDE I believe ha!

Are there any decent, cheap LAN cases around?

Just curious, and this will by no means change anything you lot have done, but would this machine be usable with something like Valves streaming box (not the full steam machine, the other smaller box)?

Ta!

Am I going to suffer much going from full to micro ATX?

I currently use a WiFi expansion card, so I'd at least need that back in (unless the motherboard comes with WiFi?)
