So I have a friend (online) who's just told me he's had a tax refund, and is rather happy about this!
So he's got a starting point of £480 for a PC, primarily as a gaming machine. He's not averse to adding in a bit extra to the budget, but my worry is that if he aims too high, he'll end up sitting and waiting rather than actually just buying something now.
(He games at 800x600 on an old laptop right now)
My thoughts are that he should get a Iiyama 24" monitor for £110, as he's not likely to have the budget for anything 120Hz or larger resolution anytime soon, and a 24" screen will do him for a good long while.
AMD CPU/platform? He talks of upgrades, but in my opinion he'd be highly unlikely to replace a motherboard and CPU, the most he'd ever do I think is to swap a graphics card or add RAM.
Am I best off just grabbing a pre-built OcUK system and making a minor change to it, or am I better off speccing exact components?
Build ideas also welcome!
