Hi guys,

Could someone spec me a build to suit the following ? -

I'm looking to upgrade my pc as cheap as possible .... but would really like to get a new monitor as well ... at the moment I'm looking at the Digimate 27''@ 2560 x 1440. So the new pc needs to be able to run games like Skyrim / Total War series at this res without too much trouble ...

My existing pc -
Intel core 2 4300 1.8ghz oc to 3.00ghz (though it resets the oc regular)
Gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r mb
4gb ram
Radeon hd 4890
Antec case with 380w built-in power supply
Nec 20wgx2 monitor
Win7 64 retail

I would like under £400.00 for the pc if possible / I may wait for the Digimate to go on offer again before placing the order as I see from the monitor forum it regularly goes for £299 - £320 ish on special ....

Cheers :)

One approach you could try is to get a HD4890 crossfire setup...

So you would need a new mobo, poss more powerful cpu (quad), better psu and maybe more ram.

If you buy good used components then should be able to do it for around £200.

I'd seriously think about trying to up my budget if I were going to game @ 1440p. £600 should get you a nice i5/AMD 7950 setup which should play those games with decent FPS.

Either way I'd recommend going for a full new spec (Someone will be along soon I'm sure) vs the upgrade path. You are several generations out of date and honestly nothing there is worth holding on to.

I'm not keen on going the crossfire route tbh, would rather stick to one graphics card to avoid any issues further down the line, but thanks for the suggestion .... I'd forgot that was an option with my old Radeon card.

Looks like I need to up my budget then .... so what's the bare minimum spec I need to look at to get what I need ?
