Hello, new here and intend to stay as you can't beat a few nerds and a bit of pc chat. Who knows maybe I can offer advice!

I know i've built this PC on another website but it was just easy to see all the components and then copy and paste.

I built my old PC 6 years ago, back then it was pretty top notch. amd 3800+ nvidia 7800GT etc. Only 2 days ago the gfx card packed after I overclocked it slightly :P. A new pc is long past due anyway. Am looking to spend £650 or so, no more really as i'm not "semi pro" at gaming anymore, just play games with a few friends. CoD in particular.

I'd like my PC to last me again, plenty of years even with the higher demand of games these days, so potentially to be easily upgradeable in the future.

This one I came up with, a little over the budget by about £50 so can you guys advise what I can skimp down on, or what's a waste of time. I don't really want to overclock again as I didn't enjoy it the last time. As mentioned i'd like to be able to do my day to day pc running, facebook, building websites, play music whilst doing this then quickly change to MW2 or Black Ops with GOOD fps. (Was currently getting about 20fps on all low settings, yikes!)

Appreciate your thoughts..

You've picked the non K version of the i5 processor, which isn't overclockable, yet you've picked a P67 board which is used to overclock them. If you want to save a bit of money you could go for a H67 chipset motherboard, as they tend to be a little cheaper than their P67 variants.

Sorry yes I more than likely would. HDD's definitely and I still love my TT Coolermaster, my PSU may need upgrading if the GPU needs it.

@Davey Just read back the build to myself and thought the exact same thing as I saw your post har har

Assuming you're using your same case, how about something like this...

VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £109.05

Delivery takes it a touch over budget, but by paying the little extra for the 2500K you have the option to overclock in the future should you decide to.

Have read a few other threads too, few nice linked specs further down for about £500 - 600 which seem reasonable. The problem I have always occurred is "Shall I spend an extra £15 on this to improve" or "an extra £30 as it looks better". I'm not a very decisive person. The spec I have put to you guys there, obviously changing what you have noted, would be good or excellent for what I want it to do?

Just seen your build Davey will take a peak

That looks very good for 650 quid

get some standard clocked memory at 1333Mhz. You will not be overclocking, and anyway SB does not do too well with BLCK overclocking.

Also, what brand is that PSU? Not the name, but the quality.

Yeah that looks good Davey, thanks very much! Those prices from overclockers? I'll probably cut out the HDD as I got 2 raptors and may invest into a new case as I want it to feel like a new PC as well as look like a new PC.

My room can get quite hot, would that fan suffice?
Never used Geil, how does that perform?

I very much doubt i'll ever want to overclock - if I move to the 2500, take out the HDD, move the mobo to a H67 (is there much in difference other than clocking to a P67) - i'll be able to grab a case. At first glance, the H67 is £40 cheaper, HDD £32, £10 or whatever for the 2500k, so £80 on a case or a bit added extra to wherever needs improving again.

What about a PSU/case bundle...

Change the psu to this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-003-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497

The GX range of Coolermaster psu's gets poor reviews.

The case is big, it can even accommodate a ATI 5990 in it.

So this build I have here thanks to Davey is good for everyday use plus MW2? Any ideas on what FPS i'd get on high performing games. Hard to estimate I understand..

I've got about another £40 or so.. What shall I tweak?

this - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_7.html#sect0 - shows how much better that 2500 cpu is at gaming over say a AMD build, the test bed used consists of a 6870 gpu.

GTX460 1GB vs 6870 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/290?vs=313 so your will be getting at a guess 10-15% less than the Xbitlabs results show.

Clearly an i5 is the way to go, having done research I will not use the i7 for what it's meant for. Very interesting about the 6870 vs GTX, you've thrown a spanner in the works.

VERY similar prices too, i've always gone NVIDIA though. What would you recommend? Clearly the website speaks for itself, but why is there such a performance difference? I'm not to good on gfx cards these days..

Buy the cheapest - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-240-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866

And its quicker because its aimed at a different market/price sector, which with your £40 surplus can afford.:)

You cant directly compare the clock speeds/shader unit counts and other features between Nvidia and ATI they both design their graphic cores differently/count items in different ways. The only way is to look at benchs from reviewers using the same test equipment.

money isn't much of an issue, there is enough of it I just don't want to fork out unnecessary amounts! My HDD are pretty old, so maybe I use nvidia and them grab the hdd which davey suggested?

Appreciate everyones time here!

The blue drives are just standard 7400rpm ones, the green are 5900rpm eco freindly slow rubbish, the black drives are the fast ones for performance.

This is faster than a WD blue - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-206-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=940 and very similar in performance to a WD black.
