Hi all

I have an EVGA 680i A1 P30 Bios
With a quad core G0 Q6600
& OCZ Flex XLC PC 9200

I am running my chip at 3.6ghz under a swiftech compact. Vcore 1.475 load temps in the low 60's

FSB is 1800 with RAM running at 1200

PC passes 8hrs Prime95 (version 24) And RAM passes memtest 86 in DOS for 6hrs

SO it all seems stable BUT.....

Whenever I turn it on it either locks up when win XP is loading....or gets to desktop then locks????? If i re-set it and enter the BIOS & then re-start it it starts up again & behaves completely stable????????

What is going on?? I am not a noob and have tried to isolate all the idividual overclocks to check for stability but all stability tests are fine!!

Any ideas please?

Hmmm that's a perplexing issue

Can't say I've had a system that can pass a prime run but fails to boot properly?

As already mentioned I would try a quick test setting the system back to stock to see if the boot problem went away. . . . If it did then its obviously part of your overclock . . .but which part?

Funny, I can run Prime for hours at 3ghz, but on the odd (maybe every 2nd or 3rd) cold boot, I get a Blue Screen stating 'Hardware Malfunction. Your system has halted......'

It will run everything I throw at it in Winblows, but has that issue at startup. It seems to be less if I increase CPU voltage and CPU VTT, but then there is a heat issue, although I am using a B3.

If you haven't already, give the CPU VTT a nudge or 2.

Thanks for ideas....

in response.......My RAM timings are 5-5-5-18 for 1200.....but the RAM passes memtest without a hitch.

I have hiked the Vcore up to 1.5v to see if that helps......which it hasn't :(

Running system at stock is fine!!!

I have always had a problem with the 680i....it is just a difficult chipset to work with. My board has FSB holes all over the place!!

Slow the ram down and see if that helps. Memtest only shows that the memory is fine, it doesn't show up errors in the chipset.

I've not seen any compelling reason to run ram really fast on the Conroe platform?

realise the memory tests ok in memtest, is the voltage on it within the levels spec'd for it ?

have you tried upping the northbridge/chipset voltage a click or 2 ?

just trying to come up with things i've found that have caused me probs in the past :D

There is an almost identical issue on the 650i chipset boards due to an incompatability with the eSATA system implemented by JMicron. Try turning off any unused on-board devices and see if that helps. Also check for the obvious like SD cards left plugged in to card readers etc.
