I thought i could put up with my pc starting up after shut down and before i switch the main switch. but i couldnt take it :( now i HAVE to turn it off by the wall.

If i just click "shut down" it shuts down perfectly well, after shut down i wait a few seconds and it powers back up again ( like a restart? ). even if i press the power button, and let it shut down. it still restarts.

What could be the problem?

also, when i do switch it off by the wall ( when i shut the pc down the normal way) if i wait the few seconds, the lights all come on for the fan etc then go off. very strange when there is no power.

Residual power left in PSU capacitors.

That's a very strange problem. Does the PC turn on when you turn it on at the mains, or do you have to press the power button? i know that sounds weird but i couldnt think of any other wording lol

my asus board does this as well. really peees me off. mine generally does it on hibernate tho. i found out that it also turned itself back on for windows update - 3am or something? anyway i turned that off and only seek for updates manually. still doesnt explain the random wakeup after whilst hibernating though

The OP does sound exactly like my problem. Computer turns itself back on after 3 seconds of being off unless I switch it off at the socket. Absolutely nothing I've been able to do about it for over a year now since I built it.

I see nothing in the bios. My motherboard is a MSI P55 GD65. Iv looked through all the menus and i see nothing.

good question, no it doesnt! im beginning to wonder it might be a dodgy power switch or something on the case. Im still checking all the bios settings.

All my wake options are disabled in bios too. I've had the problem over two cases so it's not the switch.

hmmm... what a situation. Do you have anything that connects to the computer wirelessly? if my computer is off and i use the Remote app on my iPod, it turns my computer on. so yeah, keep checking the BIOS settings
