Last night while watching something in windows media player my pc crashed, the picture hung and the sound seemed to repeat at full volume almost deafening me. At first i thought it was just wmp that had crashed for some reason but i soon realised that my keyboard wouldn't respond and the entire system wasn't responding so i restarted the pc.

The system came back on but there was no picture , sound and the keyboard still wouldn't work, nothing plugged into usb seems to be getting any power. I immediately turned it off and unplugged the psu cable and opened up the case to see if anything looked wrong. There was no smell of smoke, nothing seems burned out and everything seems to be as it should other that the fact my system still want start up.

I would try and check the components myself in another system but all the pc's in the house are out of date and incompatible with my pc.

here's the spec for the main components

Intel Quad Core Q6600 CPU
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi P35 DDR2
4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-6400C4
BFG 8800 GTS 640MB
Antec Truepower Trio 640W PSU
2 500GB samsung HD501LJ Hard Drives

Currently running xp as the operating system

I've had the system since last august and haven't had a single problem with it other than the first day when i installed vista :/

I've overclocked the cpu to 3.2ghz months ago and had no stability problems, the system is well ventilated in it's antec 182 case with all the cables out of the way of the airflow, the cpu's being cooled with a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme and Scyche S-Flex 120mm 1600rpm fan and 4 case fans.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong and what i should do? It's my first build so i'm gutted that it's worked so well and then this.

im assuming you cant get into bios, in that case, i would advise you to remove all the RAM modules, and insert them 1 by 1 and try booting with each one.

i had this same problem, when i removed 1gb ram stick it worked fine, turned out it was faulty

also remove your graphics card and try booting using onboard.. apart from that i dont really know

good luck

I love you :p

Just took out every stick of ram and put them back in, on the first stick to be put back in the pc booted up properly :D

Thanks
