PC still hanging :(

Hi guys.

Driving me insane. I've had an odd problem whereby randomly whilst playing Cod4 or other games, my PC will hang - but not totally - ie, if I wait long enough (sometimes up to 3-4 minutes) it is recoverable and continues as if nothing has happened.

It's now doing it every single time i quit a game - quit Cod4, or Eve Online, and the machine hangs for 10-15 seconds. It then unhangs and continues to work fine.

I've had task manager up at the time it's happened and can't see anything odd. Other than this hanging issue the PC works perfectly and performs fine and never truely, properly crashes.

Any ideas?

I'm now getting 6-8 second freezes every time I click a link in IE :eek:

In control panel -> computer management -> event viewer (classic view for xp, not sure if its the same in vista) are there any excessive logs/error codes? Normally in system/application folders.

How many hard drives do you have in? I would take a closer look at them, power cable and ide/sata.

Do you have C1E and Speedstep disabled in the BIOS? (they should be disabled ideally as many have reported hangs etc with them enabled)

No idea if its disabled or not mrk.

Got two SATA WD HDD's.

First thing I would do is download and run Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools in DOS - http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?cxml=n&pid=2&swid=53

If the drives pass the advanced/thorough tests, then run a Memtest for an hour or two.

If Memtest runs fine, then I'd install Windows on a seperate harddrive, and try to replicate your problems on that installation.
