So my pc will randomly just stop working. I could be playing games or just browsing the internet but my still screen will still do this :

and the only way to fix it is to restart.

My system isn't overclocked either.

qx6700
ati 5850 with latest drivers
Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX Dual Channel
tagan 1100w psu
Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Any solutions?

general suggestions:
monitor temps with something like speedfan.
try swapping out the graphics card (do you have on-board graphics or a different card you could try?)
try with and without gfx drivers/with and without Aero

it's all about eliminating potential causes until what's left is your culprit. best way to do this is swapping out or removing hardware, uninstalling drivers/app or starting with a fresh install of windows/ linux live-cd.

looks like a gfx card issue tho. could be overheating, since a restart will fix it?

temps for my cpu are at 35c / 36c / 33c / 35c while gaming, also the graphics card temp is at 46c

I don't have another graphics card/onboard to try either.

those temps don't look problematic.

if you can't swap out the hardware, the next thing to do would be to uninstall the drivers provided by ATI, and see if crashes persist in general desktop use. Try without Aero too.

Personally, at that point I'd start googling for similar experiences from other users. Be sure to google for your particular brand of card (sapphire, evga, whatever) and check out support forums dedicated to that vendor.

could you borrow someone else's card? are happy to install it yourself?

I would suggest it could be either graphics card memory or even drivers - try re installing the drivers - you never know it might cure it. I still think it could be memory tho.

if it was a temp problem it would restart i believe, however i believe it may be a memory problem. reseat your memory?

I would also reseat the card as well , I had that problem, it looked like it was in through, oh well.
