Dam microsoft thing :p

Ive got my xbox 360 today, trying to connect it to my pc to steam music vids etc. Im running windows XP Home SP2 on my pc.

The way i have it setup, is Router > Hub > My PC > Xbox. I can connect to xbox live fine with the xbox using the pc's internet. I cant seem to get it to connect to the pc however.

Ive got media connect running, has detected the xbox 360 and is allowing it. Ive got UPnP installed. Im running norton but i disabled the internet security, which i understand is the firewall. Windows security centre told me firewall was disabled. Windows firewall is not enabled. I dont need to open ports on my router as the pc is the next thing on the network.

When i click stream or whatever, it searches for windows pc's but cant find any. I do the test, passes the wired test as well as the ip, but fails on the first pc bit.

Anyone have any idea why? ive searched aload of threads which hasnt helped.

You have shared the folders with music etc in media connect? Probably wont be that if its not finding the PC at all though. I'm sure this problem has come up recently, so just do a search.

(Oh, and a quick note - you cant stream vids unless you are running Windows Media Center Edition)

ok just wanted music mainly. Ermm well ive searched through quite a lot on here, ive tried all the suggestions so im a bit confused. Have shared folders as well but xbox cant detect the pc.

try this is i have to enable some services which seems to either be stopped or on manual and have to be switched on.

Press Start
Right Click on "My Computer"
Choose "Manage" from the context menu.
When the Computer Management console appears click on the Services and Applications icon in the left hand pane, and then the Services icon that appears as a child directory.

In the right hand pane do the following for both the "Universal Plug and Play Device Host service and the SSDP Discovery Service:

Double Click on the service.
Ensure that Startup Type is set to "Automatic"
Choose the "Log On" tab in the services properties dialog
Choose the "This Account" radio button in the "Log on as:" section.
Type "NT AUTHORITY\LocalService" without quotes in the text box.
Don't change anything in either of the password fields. If it requests that
you change the password, clear the field.

You may need to open ports on your router, have you tried adding the 360 to the dmz?

Actually, have you trried removing the hub from the equasion? have both the pc and the 360 connected directly to the router?

i shouldnt need to open any ports on my router because i have the router connected a hub, the hub splits off into 3 pc's. My xbox is connected to the internet through my pc, it doesnt use the router.

Have you tried it without the hub though? have everything running through the router? it may be worth a try
