My rig is as per my sig. Last week it simply seemed to have a complete lack of power and just went off - I was in the middle of remote-desktop and suddenly the screen went blank and the entire desktop was 'off'.
I tried rebooting it and after hearing the fans start up, the lights come and the HD, memory & device state messages it went off again. It did this 4-5 further times, sometimes on 1sec after power-on, sometimes 10 secs.
Anyhow, I opened it up, everything was tight, but I started with the 2nd HD (Maxtor SATA 320GB) and re-connected the Molex & SATA cables. I switched on and everthing seemed to work fine. XP booted up okay, no errors on disk.
I never encountered a BSOD and neither did XP try to run a CHKDSK.
Anyhow, after a week of good running, it did it again last night. Only diff was that the first re-boot game me about 15 minutes of use before dying again.
This morning I un-plugged the Molex & SATA for the 2nd HD & am up and running again. I plan to leave the m/c on all day & see what happens.
Any advice?
TBH - I sounds more like a PSU issue than the 2nd HD...
