OK I just rebuilt my wife's PC with a combination of older parts and some new parts everything appeared to be ok, although I had to go through a long route to get Win 7 64bit installed as I had to install Vista 64 first then Win 7 from an upgrade disk that I have had from new and never used.

So got the latest GPU drivers etc then downloaded and installed stuff like WoW, (its all the system is used for tbh), and everything seemed ok so started to download and install a few other bits like addons for WoW and antivrus type stuff also a few utils like core temp, gpu temp etc and of course Corsair Link for the H80i.

Last night after the wife had been playing Wow for few hours she logged off and was sat there when the PC suddenly reboot itself with no warning or error messages started back up fine though and that was it for last night.

This morning she started the PC up at about 9am ish played Wow for a while with no problems then logged off. About an hour after she logged off it again rebooted itself with no warning and has proceeded to do so all day the longest interval it ran for was about 1hour but it now seems to be happening every 30 - 40mins

Old Parts
CPU - FX4100 3.6
GPU - Nvidia GTX 550Ti
Ram - 8GbHyperX (not sure of speed)
HDD - Seagate 250gb
PSU - 700w (not sure of make)

These were all working fine when they were removed from an older PC that the motherboard died on.

New Parts
Mobo - MSI 970A-G46
HDD - Seagate 1Tb (Boot Drive)
Case - Corsair 230T
Cooling - H80i with 2 x 120 exhaust at rear, 2 x 120 intake at front of case and 1 x 140 on top as exhaust

I initially thought that something was wrong with the cooling and it was over heating but looking at Corsair Link and Core Temp, GPUZ, CPUZ and HWmonitor all the temps seem fine except the CPU temp which for some stupid reason is showing stupidly low temps ie 5 degrees although BIOS says 30 Degrees.

I have a screen shot of HWmonitor etc showing temps but no idea how to display it here.

I am thinking its software based problem but to be honest I have no idea.

Does anyone have any ideas as this thing is driving me absolutely crazy. :(:(:(:(

Hi Matt,

Go to www.imgur.com (just one example) and click on Upload Images. Then browse computer for the screenshot, click Open and Start Upload. Copy the "BBCode (message boards & forums)" link and paste here.

Ok Screenshot of temps placed in spoiler tags as I am not sure of its size
(fingers crossed this works).

PS
Not sure if it helps but at 2000hrs, (8pm), the PC rebooted itself again, this time though I selected start in safe mode, (no idea why it just seemed like a good idea at the time), the PC has been sat there ever since just ticking away in Windows for 2 hours with no sign of a reboot.

Am I anywhere near correct in thinking that this sort of leans towards a software conflict of some sort or am I completely off the deep end here

Matt, the voltage readings for +5v and +12v look way off. You say you aren't sure what PSU it is. Can you find out? In any case, I'd try and borrow a different PSU and see if the problem keeps happening.

OK took some digging as I bought it from OCUK a very long time ago :(

But I believe this is the one she has fitted:
Hiper 730w HPU-4M730 SLi Certified ATX 2.2 PSU

Another thing today I got some advice to remove all the nvidia drivers etc as there is maybe a known conflict between this AMD chipset motherboard and Nvidia 550Ti cards, (although I couldnt find anything online about it), but anyway I did that this morning at 10ish and so far the PC has been extremely stable and has not rebooted once all day.

Got a friend lending me a MSI R9 270X tonight to see if that's any different if it is then its a probable long term loan/buy.

Might have a look for a reasonable PSU later as I am on a very tight budget right now.

Thanks for the help so far though much appreciated.

I would also check that autorestart is off in system properties as the reboot is probably a blue screen and if we knew the error/code it could be deciphered.
Go to control panel, system, advanced system settings, click settings on start up and recovery and untick automatic restart under system failure. Set debugging information to small memory dump.
Then if you get a BSOD more likely its software related, if you dont get a BSOD but it still reboots then it points to PSU/Hardware issue.

Yep already did this, its why I posted on here asking for advice as I had no error messages or BSOD so was at a complete loss as to what could have been causing it.

But thank you.

Boot the system up and get into the BIOS. Leave that screen up and see if it reboots after a while. If it does this is hardware related and you can start investigating.

Reboots such as you describe are rarely software related.

Hi Matt,

You're right you do appear to be experiencing a similar issue to me! After extensive testing with numerous parts I've come to the conclusion that its a hardware issue with my PSU, its currently in the process of being RMA'd with cooler

Does your PSU have a warranty? Typically most reputable brands come with 3 years so it may be worth checking! hope this helps!

Unfortunately its no longer under warranty as its at least 7 years old which I didnt realise until Danny75 asked me to check both make and age earlier.

Anyway I had a think about it over night and taking into consideration its the wifes PC, (so anything for a quiet life), and Danny75 comments about the 5v and 12v numbers looking a bit wonky this morning I ordered
YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £85.99
Total : £95.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

So that will be here tomorrow and will see if that fixes it if it does then I have also been given a R9-270X 4Gb by a mate on long term loan which is more than enough for her to play WoW with, actually thinking about it I may have to steal it for my system and give her my 750Ti

Let me know if this solves your issue! got my fingers crossed for you pal!

Well I fitted the new PSU to the wife's PC, and so far its been running for 2hrs+ with no sign of a reboot.

It was rebooting every 30mins ish so fingers crossed that the problem is sorted.

On a side note this EVGA unit is a very nice PSU and will probably be buying another on pension day to replace my own 5+yr old OCZ PSU.
