Hi all, I have a problem thats happening.

I have a rig which is used for mining with 1x 7950, 1x 7970 and 1x 5970. The 5970 is the latest to be added, however when I run all 3 cards my PC turns off after about an hour of mining. With just the 7xxx series cards its been running perfectly. Does anyone know what could be the issue? My PSU is a corsair AX1200i so I really doubt it is due to lack of power... unless I am connecting it wrong? Oh and the 5970 is connected via 1x-16x PCI-E riser powered by molex!

Any help would be great.

I would bet it's the card overheating as well...most probably the 5970, or may be it is not getting enough power from the molex?

3 cards in the case unless you have a motherboard with good spacing and a big case, I think they are directly on top of one another like a sandwich? :p

I wasn't aware that you could crossfire GPU's two generations apart under any circumstances. I had 5970/5870 trifire and I know 6990/6970/6950 could be cossfired together AND the 7950/7970/7990 can be crossfired but different generations especially 2 generations apart can't under any circumstances be crossfired to the best of my knowledge. If I'm wrong I hold my hand up but I am or rather was almost certain what you're attempting isn't possible although if it runs for an hour it suggests I may be talking rubbish.

sorry, my PC is setup as follows: 7970 and 7950 in slots... max temps of low 70s when mining, and the 5970 is on a riser outside of the case with temps maxing 83. So there isnt a problem with temps I dont think because the 5970 is out with all the space in the world. I am not trying to crossfire at all just use them all for mining which as far as im aware of should work!

The cards are all mining for about 1 hour... sometimes 30 mins sometimes 2 hours.. then the PC will just completely shut off!

Probably see the Generic 41 power error that many think it a PSU error but simple means PC was turned off abnormally like pulling the plug out the wall (cannot remember correct wording or codes TBH).

Maybe the molex part of the riser isnt connected properly? Will have to check when I get back. I thought the molex part of it was advised and not required? So that shouldnt cause a whole system power failure?
