Hi guys, quick rundown of specs, W7 64 bit Ultimate and the PC hardware is:

Asus M5A78L USB3
Bulldozer 8120 CPU
16GB Kingston RAM (4GB strips)
1TB Seagate HDD
Samsung DVDRW
ATI 6870 video card (think its XFX)
OCZ CoreXtreme 500w PSU
CIT Vantage case

The issue is odd. The PC can run benchmarking software for hours/days with no issue and then, at random and not ALWAYS, you can plug in a USB device like a mouse, click the mouse button for the first time and boom off it goes. Has happened when plugging in a HDMI TV also, off goes the PC.

The computer shut down on numerous occasions after installing the video drivers for the graphics card and trying to connect multiple screens via the card, which it would turn off automatically.

Whenever it does this, it will not turn back on for 5-10 mins, all temps seem fine... Never had a problem like this one before. With it being between USB ports and the video card I can't think what it could be as it doesn't help to narrow things down.

PSU not good enough or has an issue/fault?
Video card?
Motherboard?

Can't see what else it can be, but testing software etc shows no apparent faults with any component so it's so frustrating trying to work out the problem! Never had one like this before, normally it's a clear cut "one component is faulty" scenario, its all brand new stuff, new build.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated :)

PSU is the issue here, the one you have is for really low spec ones, OCZ ZS 550w 80+ bronze would be a better choice. My friend had exactlly same problem. But also as above try installing a fresh OS and if it doesnt work than it would be psu.

PSU isnt really an issue. 500W is plenty for that system. Although it is possible but that would just be faulty PSU not not enough watts. Im thinking its goanna be motherboard related like USB drivers.

Can you borrow a PSU off someone to check?

Gonna try a Coolermaster 600w GX lite unit it seems higher specced so will give it a blast.

Really hope thats what it is, baffled with HDMI outputs turning the PC off at times too... odd!

It's just gonna be on loan, but has similar ratings to the OCZ in there currently to be fair...

Just hope it's a clear cut PSU problem as its taking an age to diagnose.

Could give it a go.. Have reseated the mobo etc nothing should be shorting anywhere, lined up perfectly on the stand offs etc. Pretty odd how it also does it by adding in HDMI connections too though, if it was just USB I'd think motherboard alone really.
