Hi all :-)

I've had this issue for a few weeks now, but every time I play in BF4 it always switches my PC off like pulling the plug out the wall..
Always at the same point in time too, just after a game has finished, and there is a few seconds before the next map loads...

Has anyone had this issue before?? I thought it might be down to my PSU, but I'm only using 165-170Watts when playing, and also when stress testing CPU and GPU... My PSU is a Corsair cx500, rated upto 400W..

Thanks :-)

500w PSU is recommended for a 7850.

How many 12v rails does your psu have.

Sounds to me like it has more than one, and the rail which is powering your GPU does not have enough amps to give.

Sounds just like the OCP kicking in to me.

I have had similar on an older rig and it was caused by the GPU overheating. The PC shut down to stop damage to the components.

Cleaned my case out, and cleaned the GPU and it stopped happening :)

Yup, means the power has been tripped.

Could be because of the PSU not delivering enough juice under load. Could be the GPU overheating and tripping a shut down.

How clean is your case and GPU? If it is fluffed up with muck, you might want to try cleaning it first and see how you get on.

If it is nice and clean it may well be your PSU struggling with the draw from the card, or on its way out.

EDIT - also check to make sure your fans inside the case are all operating and that the fans on the GPU are working too, and check your temps if possible.

What type of HDD are you using? If it happens when the HDD is under stress it could be related to that.

I only play BF4 really, so cant test on any other games as dont have them too.

Temp of GPU under furmark are under 60oC at 36% fan speed, as well as that, i've 3 intake fans, front, side, bottom, and 3 exhaust fans, 2 at top and 1 rear.

Clean my case out with a full can of air at least once a month and all intakes have dust filters.

HDD is a WD Blue 1TB

looks like the amps add up to well under the MAX specs for the psu but the power it can supply below max may well be much less. peek numbers are meaningless really. can't find any good info on a quick search.

have you got another psu you could try?
how old is the psu?

It's just happened again, but this time while on the Battefield battlelog website so the PC wasn't under anything that could cause it to switch off..

Think i'm going to strip the PC down, and rebuild it all..

Have been looking into buy all new components, as this isn't gaming hardware i've currently got set up.

borrow a psu if you can. i'd lend you one but you are a little far up the road.

check the windows logs to try and work out what it was doing at the point of shutdown. is it allways the same error you get in the logs? the one above really does point to a psu issue.

any overclocking going on with the gpu or cpu? set it all at stock speeds and see if it can take the strain then. (if it's oc'd)

i was on a stable OC on my 7850, but took that off a few weeks back when these shutdowns started, since then though, ive been running stock clock.

I've just remembered that i bought the last Call of duty on steam, so will give that a blast and see how it performs.

Looking into the future, im looking to purchase a 850w PSU, i know its overkill at the moment, but hope to run SLI or Xfire in the coming year.

sounds like a good move.

got any mates with a pc? could rip out their psu just for testing your rig. and stick your psu in their system to test that too.
