Anyone got any recommendations for a PC to be used for Microsoft word. There is already a monitor in place. Would like something with a tiny footprint so it's clean and easy to use.

Preferably something reliable and which will just work without hassle.

Cheers

Do you mean a pre-built or are you speccing for a build and will you need an OS?

(Great sig.)

I can sort out OS myself. Happy for pre-built or build myself. It is a present for someone. They just use Microsoft word and maybe VLC/YouTube/light surfing every so often. Do doesn't haven't to be powerful particularly as long as it does above smoothly. Main thing is reliability they're not it orientated. Also a clean solution.

Glad you enjoy sig think of it as payment.. ;)

I forgot to ask your budget - but i've put together some components and suggestions for a very capable machine for word and browsing etc...

I chose intel as it uses less power - but AMD would be cheaper - but you mentioned the words 'small foorprint'. Keeping that in mind an SSD would obviously use less power too.

It's not the cheapest build you could do but it should be reliable and it's made up of quality components and should fit the 'work without hassle' criteria.

Hopefully, you'll get some others tag on and add their 'two penneth' - but costs are, ~£450 if you choose the SSD (250Gb), or, ~£400 if you choose a conventional drive (i think - it's late and i'm adding up in my sleep).

Additional: I chose a case that doesn't support an optical drive - if this is needed you will need a slightly different case, Prodigy M MATX Cube - it won't look as clean but needs must etc... Or You could opt for an external drive if it's to be used very rarely.

If this is too expensive then it can be adapted (Slightly cheaper PSU, cheaper/smaller SSD, cheaper case and even the AMD route).

Read post above still - I'm testing this basket/picture method.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £436.90
(includes shipping: £0.00)

That is so much faster - wish i had worked it out last night. I usually do fault diagnosis - very rarely spec a whole rig so never felt the need to work it out...

Obviously, this is only the SSD build without an optical drive - see above post for all alternate options./builds.

What about a HP Mini? e.g. a Prodesk 600 G2 Mini. Will actually fit on the back of a monitor via a vesa mount - more than capable for Word etc

You have more options now thankfully - both easier solutions, if they fit all your criteria, and they look very compact and minimalistic.

I'd go for this. You can actually mount it on the back of your monitor, you get onboard wi-fi and a few other bits and bobs. Crucially though with a good kabylake chip and that m.2 nvme ssd it will absoultely fly.

If you do ever need to expand storage you will still have both of the cases 2.5" hdd bays free as well so could easily add a couple of cheap latpop hard drives.

It's probably worth mentioning this could be done significantly cheaper if you wish. Switching the board / cpu to the older generation and dropping to a normal SSD will bring it down a good chunk.
