First off why as I know people will ask ;)

I work from home and want to control my work laptop from my main PC as it's a much nicer sitting position and MUCH bigger screens.
Problem is the laptop is linked to work via a VPN which locks down the network ports so I can't use software to remote across using the network which would be easy.

So, does anyone know of a way to do this via USB, or is there a way to sneak a connection by the vpn?(cisco v4.8)

If security is that tied down, can't you ask for a monitor, keyboard and mouse for your laptop? Or perhaps get a docking station?

If not, have you looked at Tight VNC server?

I've got a monitor/kb/mouse/docking station etc, problem is I don't have enough room to work on it comfortably and it's extremly underpowered so anything like spreadsheets/docs/research I do on my main machine. But I can't comfortably sit in front of the laptop, bit hard to explain but being able to control the laptop from my main pc would be a godsend.

VNC is the kind of thing I need and I use it a lot, but I can't find anything that will work across USB to get around the lockdown the VPN is creating.

can you add a USB>Rj45 netowrk adapter and run the network connection on a different subnet so you have the vpn on one subnet and the vnc connection on another?

I can try but doubt it, the USB NW adapter would still be seen a NIC and would be blocked by the VPN. Will have a play though.

How is the laptop establishing the VPN connection? built in windows client or some 3rd party software from Cisco or similar?
