hey guys my friends pc was working fine yesterday, he turned it off to connect his new headset via the jacks on the back of the mobo.
now when it turns on it will turn off either instantly, 10 seconds into the boot, get to windows screen and freeze. it does this everytime.
we tried a new psu but still same issue, took it apart cleaned it up and re pasted it, tried taking ram out and gpu but still no good.
for now he is using my spare sabertooth x58 and i7 950 at stock but he was using a sniper g1 and 3570k i5 oc to 4.4ghz
whats the best way to test if its the mobo or cpu? i dont have a cpu to fit the board but my mobo can run ivy bridge cpus but idealy i dont want to strip mine down if there is anything else i can check first. any help is great thanks in advance.

Could be a short somewhere. This happend to me a while back and i took the motherboard out and reseated it.
I assume you have taken the headset out and tried it?

have you tried putting the other board back in? Have you got any other memory modules you could use?

currently have it in my spare case with one of my sticks of ram in and old hard drives so its been re seated, and new ram. im thinking the mobo is on its way out as when i do get a picture using the on board graphics and get into the bios i get lines flashing around like artifacts. going to see if i can flash the bios to an updated one and see if anything changes

Take it apart man buy have a cooling paste in had... take everything apart clean all conctacts and connected all the pieces again .. just to be sure everything is in place

took it apart cleaned it and inspected it upclose for anything touching where it shouldnt but nothing, put the cpu in my pc and it works fine so must be the mobo. annoying thing is he purchased it in march 2013 and gigabyte have a 3 year warrenty so its just out :(
