hello everone , i have a problem with my pc shutting down and wondered if anyone maybee able to help me out
i bulit the tower myself about 3 years ago it has
asus p4c800 board
intell pentium 4 3 ghz
2 gig samsung ddr pc3200 ram
fx5200 graphics card
and 1.5 tb of hard drive
just recently the tower will just power down no matter what u are doing , and will not power back up . but if i take the power cord out the back it will switch back on . there is no real time limit to how long it will stay on sometimes its a few hours and others about 10 mins
i have run the asus probe program and the cpu is running between 37 and 41 degrees so that seems fine and the cpu fan about 2700 rpm
i have cleaned everything with air so no dust.
the only thing i havnt tried is the psu , are they prone to just power down ?
any sugestions would be greatly appreciated
cheers

Defo the power supply Do you hear a click when you take the power lead out ? Put your hand at the back of it to see how hot the air is coming from it?

It must be the psu, you should buy a new one and buy a well known brand to ensure you get maximum reliability from it.
Moduler are great :)

found the problem hopefully it was the graphics card , when i started the pc yesterday got a nv4_disp error so i checked in the system 32 file and had 3 of them deleted all drivers downloaded new drivers from nvidea and so far everything running ok
fingers crossed
