PC Underperforming

Hi

Recently my pc has been running very slow, im running XP and its taking about 5-10 minutes to get to a stage where i can actually start using it, on top of this its just generally underperforming considering its specs:

Asus P5K Premium
Intel G0 Q6600 @ 1.6 Ghz
Crucial Ballistix DDR2 2gb set 535mhz 1:2 5-5-5-15
ATI 3870
Hyper Type R 530w

Running XP Pro version 2002 SP3

Recently the multitasking performance of my pc has been reduced to that of a single core p4 processor, and i ave been getting some warnings, for example while playing left for dead "warning OS paged pool memory low".

Im looking at upgrading from 2gb to 4gb of ram within the next week or so but since my PC has been running fine previously on 2GB of ram, as does my roommates with similar specs im concerned whether this will actually fix the problem.

Im leaning towards thinking my install of XP could be the problem but as it was a student version off msdnaa id have to re apply for a re install (no idea how long this takes) or get a new copy. in this case would a fresh XP, Vista, or perhaps a windows 7 beta be the best bet?

Finally ive been thinking about upgrading my graphics card as well as its given me nothing but trouble recently; back when i used to play wow it would crash on the odd occasion, and upon trying to restart would give me a messagebox saying i didnt have a graphics card

If anyone could shed any light on any of this of offer up any advice before i upgrade this would be much appreciated.

Sorry for the wall of text first post, but as you can imagine this is getting pretty annoying :(

you show the processor as 1.6 ghz ?, its default is 2.4 have you made any bios changes ?

make sure the memory and graphics card are seated properly, take them out and reseat them if necessary.

check the voltages lines in bios do they seem ok 3.3, 5, 12 etc.

ah. Im not quite sure how i missed my processor running at 1.6ghz hah.

Recently i got an error while trying to boot saying that my overclock had failed (i think i was running at 3ghz maybe) so i dropped everything to default and i assume somethings gone awry there. Ill have a tinker and see what i can ajust.

Thanks for the help so far, here are the cpuz screenshots from cpu and memory:
