OK I have had this PC just under two years. It's an AMD 3800+ on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium with 2GB Mushkin XP Black RAM. On and off over the two years it's had bouts of instability in between months of perfect stability. It was overclocked for most of that time, and stable for a majority of it. I do quite a lot of video encoding and games so it's a fairly heavily used PC.
I now have it clocked back to default as my XP Pro was experiencing a lot of BSODs, mostly USB-related I suspect ['probably caused by: usbohci.sys']. Last weekend I decided to redo XP from scratch. For a few days it was fine again, I thought the issue must have been XP. However, I've now had 2 more BSODs relating to USB again. I don't have many USB devices plugged in at the moment, I left most disconnected after the rebuild. They are a Logitech MX5000 bluetooth dongle, a USB->serial adapter I use to control xPL devices in my home, and a DYMO label printer.
I know it's a possibility one of these USB drivers is the cause but as I've been having these issues across multiple upgrades of driver versions is it more likely to be a damaged component? Memtest finds no faults, overclocked or standard. Neither does any of the other diagnostic tools I've tried detect anything amiss.
I've just about had enough of it and am prepared to replace the motherboard, CPU and RAM in one go to correct it if necessary. Just wanted to see if anyone had any thought or ideas that might be of use.
Thanks.
