Hi all, I’m looking to upgrade my current machine from a 2500k and GTX780 with a budget of £1500-£2000.

Possible bits I can reuse are a:
Noctua NH-D14, Silverstone case FT-02 and an AX750 PSU but these are all at least 10 years old now. Case may be too small depending on the GPU chosen.

Was looking at an AMD CPU and possibly the 7090xt Pulse.
Would need a copy of windows to be included in the cost.
Monitor is an ASUS 1440p
Assume the PSU would be unreliable at its age so guess that would require an upgrade too.

Anything else you need to know?

All help appreciated.

TIA

Do you mean the 9070 XT Pulse, or the 7900 XT Pulse? Most places no longer sell the 7900 XT Pulse anymore as new, bar one place that I've just found, though it's £800 there (which is massively overpriced compared to the 9070 XT Pulse IMO).

I have a hunch that you meant the newer 9070 XT Pulse though, which I would recommend.
Sorry, yes newer 9070XT

Yeah, that looks ok but I don't mind paying a little more if I get a much better PSU? Found Noctua do an mounting bracket upgrade for my cooler to use the AM5 socket so will get that ordered, will need some thermal compound to go with it. Anything you recommend for that too?

Looking to change Win 11 to home from pro too as its nearly £40 cheaper, assume there's no reason I need the pro versions?
Removed the cooler to use my own
PSU change as your advice.

Should be no issues with the above?

Just looked at the photos of the TUF PSU and for the motherboard it has a 9x2 and a 5x2 but the motherboard has connectors to accept a 12x2 4x2 and a 2x2. Assume it's me missing something?

Also like the look of the Aorus board not sure it the bit on the back of the IO connectors would foul the Noctua NH-D14 I already have? Is either board better than the other?

Thanks pastymuncher.

I have just checked the Noctua site and my cooler is not compatible with the Aorus and and needs to be mounted to offset on the Eagle board. Any other cooler you all recommend? Been happy with my Noctua so should I get a compatible model?

Perfect, I’ll go with your recommendation then. No issues with fitting the Aorus board with the ram you chose that you know of, or blocking any card slots? Thanks for your help!!

Thanks all, think I’ll order the peerless assassin and swap it out for one of the others mentioned if it doesn’t fit. Just need to pick a mobo now. Any problems going with the x870 Aorus over the others mentioned ? Hopefully going to order on the weekend. TIA

If you go for the Peerless Assassin you will have to raise the front fan so it sit's over the memory, I know this because I have one and had to do that but it does not affect the performance. As I said earlier, the Thermalright Royal Knight SE120 has no problems with memory and is cheaper with free delivery elsewhere.
Thanks PM. Any knowledge on the motherboards, is the 870 worth the upgrade over the 850? I’d like the setup to last a while so don’t mind stretching if I need to. Thanks.

Also, what ram are you using in the board. I’ll check the measurements to see if the ram I’m ordering is a lower profile.
