Hello OCUK,

My PC is approaching 4 years old and it is starting to show it's age so I'd like to update it so that it is a bit more relevant. The current specs are;

MSI Z68A-G43-G3 Intel Z68
MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC (1280MB)
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge)
OCZ Z-Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB 1600MHz
2x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s
OS Windows Vista
A knacked Antec Case
Cooler: Unknown but big.

I'd like to salvage as much as possible as I'm going to uni next month and I'd like to keep the costs down.

I need a new case and would like to get windows 10. I have been unable to OC the 2500k even using the clocking utility (plus 1mhz resulted in crashing) and recently I have experienced a few blue screens and I don't know the cause.

The PC is used for document processing and playing games at 1080p. Would the following parts be a good choice?

Asus GeForce GTX 970 TURBO OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £245.99

Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit DVD
£79.99

Aerocool Aero 1000 Midi Tower Case - White
£54.95

Crucial BX100 120GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive
£46.99

Samsung SH-118CB/BEBE SATA 18x DVD-ROM (Black)
£13.99

Total cost £456.

Windows 10 - you would be better off getting a cheap Windows 7/8.1 upgrade and upgrade vista then upgrade to Win 10 might save a bit of money if you can do it this way.
Money you save you could put towards a 256gb SSD

Had a quick look into this and it looks an excellent idea so will definitely explore this further.

In terms of the 970, is the equivalent AMD card (r9 390?) Better value?

120GB is not enough for windows period. ;)

256GB ssd min.

I have same CPU as you, overclock and get a new graphics card you good to go.

Memory is in between at the moment, but 16gb is the way to go.
