Hi,

Looking for some advice for upgrading my PC. I have an approximate budget of £450 and I am looking to upgrade my CPU, as a result I will need an upgrade of motherboard and RAM.

Current setup:

i5 3570k
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
8gb DDR 3 (1600MHz)
GTX 1060
Corsair CX 600w (Bronze)
Cooler Master Hyper 212x

I have been looking at upgrading to either:

Option 1
i5 8600k
MSI Z370 Pro
CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 8GB 3000MHz

(£444)

Option 2:
RYZEN 5 2600X
ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F

CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 8GB 3000MHz
(£401)

I will upgrade to 16gb ram when needed.

I have always been an Intel user and in my mind they have always had the superior product, is the price difference worth it for intel or is there not much between them?

Also will my current PSU be able to support this upgrade or will I need to get a new one also?

Thanks in advance.

The Ryzen 1800X bundle is a bargain and the 1800X is a mighty fine processor and you’d struggle to find better price/performance. Also correct me if I’m wrong but you can’t overclock the stock 8700 and need a Z370 motherboard even if you were to get an 8700K.

If you have the clearance in your case I’d go for a better CPU cooler as for £40-50 you’ll get much better temperatures, especially if you want to overclock the 1800X.
