PC upgrade for rendering an stuff

I built my brothers pc on a budget, i already had an asus 939 deluxe lying around, so i bought:

amd64 3200+
Corsair Memory VS1GBKIT400 PC3200 2x512MB CAS2.5
geforce 6600ddr2
seagate IDE 80 gig

The cpu has been overclocked to 2.4 ghz and the memory is on the appropriate settings, but he is expeirincing a slow system using photoshop, microstation and 3d studio, especially on rendering and on large photoshop images. If this is due to the system spec, what would improve performance more? The memory or the CPU? The most he would spend on upgrades is 80 maybe 90 but the cheaper the better. Any ideas?

An extra gig of ram will make a differance, not sure if an X2 would have the same effect. But the programs you mention def more ram.

more ram,

and an x2 would make a diff, photoshop and most 3d rendering apps are multi threaded. so should benefit from an addition core.

Also if he is doing more than one intenive job at a time he would see an improvement
