Currently i am running on
E2180
HD 3870
Asus P5k
2GB Ram

thinking of upgrading to
E8400
HD 4870 or 4850

E8400 is supposedly great and a performance increase over an e2180
HD 4870 or 50 is ment to fix AA problems that the 38* series had, i cant quite afford a GTX 260/80 :(

Will the Asus P5k run a 4870/50 to its potential. (I know the E8400 works with a p5k)

Just out of curiosity, are quad cores supported by the P5k?

Thanks for reading

Which P5K is it, the Pro definatly does!!

And yeh its still a good board that will run those GPU's to the max.

The 4870's are just as good as the GTX 280 and half the price so definatly get one!!

and yeh the E8400 is a great chip, especially if you overclock

Can't speak on the cpu front, but I remember upgrading from a 17" to 20" widescreen (1280x1024 to 1680x1050), and this is when I noticed the AA issues with my Gecube 3870. I couldn't play source games with over 4AA anymore. Now have a 4870 and its fantastic, its slightly longer than the 3870 and requires 2 power thingys instead of 1, but I am very happy with my upgrade.
