PC upgrade help and advice

1. Getting a 240~GB SSD for your primary drive would be better and have the OS on it. I'd recommend the Corsair BX100 for more budget or a Samsung 850 Evo for a bit more.
2. For the board this would be a good one(https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...ocket-am3-ddr3-atx-motherboard-mb-060-ak.html) but it's out of stock but there is a B stock one (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/b-gr...ocket-am3-ddr3-atx-motherboard-bg-084-ak.html) which should be alright. You're cooling should be adequate but the Power supply really needs upgrading before anything else. For more budget for this (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/xfx-...us-bronze-modular-power-supply-ca-024-xf.html) or for better quality go for (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...0-plus-gold-power-supply-white-ca-024-sf.html)

When my psu was pushed to the limit after I upgraded my gpu . The pc would just turn of instantly like someone had pulled the plug out.. a new more powerful psu fixed it for me.. guess my psu just could not handle the extra power drain of my new gpu.

The Asrock supports SLI and xfire while the gigabyte has an m2 slot and supports xfire only.

Gigabyte have 3 years warranty Asrock only 2 years.

Thanks! But what does the 990 and 970 actually mean?

The 990 chipset has more PCI-E lanes so does better Crossfire support such as 3-4 way and SLI support.

I think thats basically it.

Edit, also the 990 boards tend to have more power phases/much bigger heatsinks to cope, so potentially overclock better.

Improve performance? no, potentiality allow you to go past 4GHz more easily and thus increase performance due to a high clock speed - yeah, should do.

It's down to the cooling and how brave you are.

A good PSU from a reputable brand will also help, 550+ watts should suffice with a single gfx card.
