Hello everyone

I have an older HP 3300 Pro MT desktop PC and I would like to upgrade a few bits but I am getting in a bit of a tiz and my head is now hurting.

I would like to upgrade the RAM, CPU and install a GFX card, and can I install a USB 3.0 reader onto this PCs motherboard with an adapter as it has all USB 2.0 slots on the front.

The Bios is AMI 7.8

The Motherboard is a Foxconn 2ABF also known by HP as a CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX with a H61 Chipset, can someone please help as I am only upgrading because I really don't need a new PC

Many thanks for any help.

Its all very old. You can only install a low profile gpu in it and the ram will be ddr3 1600mhz. An i3/i5/i7 3*** series intel cpu is the only one that will fit so you will need to go second hand for it all.

These are the graphics cards listed at the time for it

  • AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 LP PCIe x16 card
  • AMD Radeon HD 6450 512MB DDR3 LP PCIe x16 card
  • NVIDIA GeForce 405 1GB DDR3 LP PCIe x16 card
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT520 1GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 card

I think this is the best you can fit today (im sure someone will correct me if im wrong)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £47.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Only usb 3 on pci-e *1 v2 I could find on OCUK

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £41.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Thanks for the info but I have the normal card size case not the slim case so a full sized card should fit as the case is 170mm overall width although I will make sure of the specs, and about the USB I was more on about a front card reader, but as my MoBo's USB is 2.0 will it be OK to connect to a 2.0 Motherboard but by using one of these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-value-usb-3.0-to-usb-2.0-adapter-cable-10cm-cb-105-ok.html

Yes it will connect but be pointless as you will only run at usb 2 speeds at a guess.

If your going to fit a new gpu you might have to also look at getting a bigger psu as well . Are you going to be gaming with the pc?

I have a PSU here knocking around 700w Bronze, no not for gaming at all just Video Editing at most and some Photo Editing, I have Sony Platinum 12 that works better with a nice GFX installed and a better CPU and some more RAM :)

Sony MSPMS12000 Specs
System Requirements Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit SP2 or Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit
2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD or stereoscopic 3D)
500 MB hard-disk space for program installation
2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)
IEEE-1394DV card (for DV capture and print-to-tape)
USB 2.0 connection (for importing from AVCHD, XDCAM EX, NXCAM, or DVD camcorders)
512 MB GPU memory

Supported NVIDIA or AMD GPU:

NVIDIA:
Requires a CUDA-enabled GPU and driver 270.xx or later.

- GeForce GPUs: GeForce GTX 4xx Series or higher (or GeForce GT 2xx Series or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
- Quadro GPUs: Quadro 600 or higher (or Quadro FX 1700 or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA Quadro for professional applications and recommends use of the latest boards based on the Fermi architecture.

What processor has your pc got as it doesnt mention processors in the description @brotherhp ?? An i7 3770k goes for over £100 on the bay. A gtx 570 could be £40 + or a gtx 670 £40 if your looking for a cheap upgrade. Or a gtx 970 would be about £60+ roughly. DDR 3 1600mhz 16gb would be about £40+ second hand as well. Your still looking about £200ish at a guess.

My CPU at the moment is an i3-2120 I did manage to find the manual and if I am reading this right I can go to an LGA1155 i7-2600s or an i5-2500s, and I can use a nVidia GeForce GT545 3-GB graphics adapter, full height, although I suspect I can use a better GFX card than HP are saying from what searching online throws up.

Manual Here https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-pro-3300-microtower-pc/5099458/troubleshooting .pdf 10.27Mb big

The board only supports 8Gb RAM max but thats OK for me.

I think the GT630 is my best option https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Deskt...for-HP-Pro-3300-Series-MT/m-p/5480286#M124850

I just managed to update the Bios to Version 7.16

OK h61 can support a 3*** series but the board is restricted to pcie 2 so they wont work. A i5 2500k would be a massive upgrade for about £35 on the bay. i7 2600k £50+

I would take a risk on a new gt 710 as you can always return it if it doesnt work on that board.

Personally I would just scrap it and buy something like this.

My updated basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £339.60 (includes shipping: £11.70)

The 3200g has built in graphics and can be bought elsewhere for £20 cheaper and has built in usb 3 which you wanted.

Im just adding options. Your potentially going to be spending about £200 for the upgrade (depending what cpu you go for) as it is so I was showing for a bit more you can have a vastly superior pc :p with an easy upgrade path later.

@dfour 3200g doesn't work on 500 series motherboards.

Lol. I should have caught that as i have made that msitake before. POsting at 1am when I shold have been asleep lol

I was going for a discreet gpu and forgot the change it when I cut it back to save money.

Updated the basket and changed the b520 to a b450 :)
