Right, so I had Far Cry 4 delivered the other day, but it doesn't work. Black screen on start up. Tried a few things I found online, still nada. Rang Ubi support, tried some of their stuff. Nada. Then he checked my system specs, and the processor I currently have is an AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition, and the minimum stated for FC4 is the Phenom II X4. Turns out mine scores around 2170 and the X4 is around 4000. So the guy reckons that the processor is probably the issue. So I'm looking for a new rig in the new year. My current one is 3/4 years old now anyway and is starting to show its age.

The one I have was built and delivered by PC-Specialist, but I'm not hugely fussed where I get it. I just have the experience of using them. At the moment I'm more interested in what you guys think would be the best upgrades on my current parts, and then I can work out where I get it done.

Current Spec:
AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition
GeForce GTX 460 SE
8GB RAM (Kingston I think. Can't remember)
Can't remember what motherboard I have either aha.

Budget would be anything up to £1000.
I have a mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers so wouldn't need any of those.
I'd like to keep a 1TB hard drive - I also have an internal.
I'd also be tempted to add cooling, but am open to suggestions on that.
I also don't really mind between intel/amd or nvidia/amd for respective components. I've used both before.

Basically, I'd like this rig to last a fair while again. BF4 is my main game atm, and FC4 would also be played regularly, so would love it to be running those fairly flawlessly.

Sorry for the essay, hope to hear from you guys soon.

Hi,

Can you try to find out whether that's DDR3 memory or what motherboard you have? It seems your CPU does support DDR3 so you may well have 8GB DDR3 sitting in your PC right there

wrt fc4...make sure youve patched fc4 to latest and disconnected all usb controllers/HID devices....i think other users were reporting black screen issues...may not be the pc spec.

Shivy, ill update you tomorrow. And ginge, the only usb I have in is my mouse. Disconnected my ipod and tried that, and also verified the game files but again, no luck. Think i tried pretty much everything short of recreating the game in real life aha.

Right the RAM is DDR3, however it's Samsung, not Kingston. 2 ports of 4GB.
And the motherboard is an ASUS.
Also, in case it matters, my graphics card is a 1GB card too.
