Hi all,

Thinking of upgrading my PC. What I have at the moment is:
Asus P6T Deluxe v2
Intel Core i7-920 @2.67GHz
6GB 1333MHz RAM
Nvidia GTX 580

I want a new motherboard and CPU and soon some new RAM.

I've seen recommendations for the Intel Core i5 3570k and the ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

All in all this seems to cost around £280 which seems extremely reasonable.

Just wanted to see what other people had to say on the matter. Will I see significant improvement?

Do you not have that 920 overclocked?

From what ive seen, in the flesh, then yes you will if u go 3770K

I'm struggling not to upgrade at the moment.

Haswell is close....but no one knows when we'll actually be able to buy a haswell chip from a shop.

and tbh if you were to wait til then you will only see maybe a 5-10% increase in performance, if you need an upgrade get a 3770k and overclock it with a gigabyte z77 d3h and an awesome cooler and that will set you up for the next 2-3 years

I'd wouldn't blame you for holding on for Haswell. Lower power consumption, a better IGP (im anxious to see if LucidMVP makes good use of it and quicksync) and a little more ooompf.

Your CPU looks to be at stock. I would suggest getting a decent heatsink that will fit your case and just OC for now to help you kill time. Haswell is socket 1150 and can use the same fittings as 1155/1156 so when you finally update the mobo bundle there is a very good chance that aftermarket heatsink can come with you :)
