Hi all,

I'm looking to do a PC upgrade as I replace my case (which was damaged in a house move).

I'm only looking to upgrade the tower as I already have Windows and a 3440 x 1440 monitor. I also have a AMD R9 290X and a SuperFlower 850W power supply which I will re-purpose.

The PC is mainly used for gaming and I' would like to try and make it as quiet as possible - but I'm not sure which fans/case/solution to go for to achieve this.

Thanks

Sorry I forgot to mention I have a Samsung 830 which I could keep, is it worth going for a PCIe NVMe SSD? Would I likely see a real increase?

Its not worth it going m.2, you have a fast SSD, keep it unless its capacity is low and restrictive to the amount of games you can install.

Is the 290X a custom cooled version?

The card is a MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming Edition 8192MB, its not a water cooled version unfortunately.

Atleast its not a stock cooler, otherwise you may as well given up trying to make a quiet PC.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £898.46
(includes shipping: £33.54)

That should be quiet (well as quiet as your GFX card is).

The case has sound dampening material applied and the cooler is certainly quiet.

Or this case was quiet - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18701024 - and was/maybe still is available with a free £30 Bequiet heatsink.

Thanks Stulid, much appreciated.

I do like the look of the 2nd case, will take a look through your thread - thanks again.

Best thing for you is just scroll through all the atx cases and find one to your liking. People have different tastes.

I'd go with the Fractal R5 Define.
Skylake 6700k. (280)
Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K6. (120)
16gb of 3200 mhz CL 15 DDR4. (G.Skill Ripjaws V Series, 88)
Hyper Evo 212 CPU cooler (20)

And here's the kicker. You got 500 quid left. Buy a 980ti or a Fury X.

If not, keep that 500 quid and get the next gen card. If you play mostly games, the skylake is a better processor. The R5 Define is quiet as well.
